Guest writing this week is the team of Chris Sparks and Jamie King of Sparking Design, a local design firm that developed our website and also rebranded the Asheville Bed and Breakfast Association. Chris is an Asheville native and Jamie moved here from Florida because she was drawn by the vibrant arts community. We have an office in beautiful downtown Asheville at the Flat Iron building, so we have a couple of favorite spots to mention:
One of our favorites is Early Girl Eatery. This family restaurant on Wall Street is owned by John and Julie Stehling. They have long been committed to sourcing their ingredients locally, and the board inside their entryway listing more than 20 local food purveyors is literally a sign of the goodness they serve. Their sunny, pleasant dining room will make you feel right at home while you dig into shrimp and grits, a fried green tomato napolean, or sweet potato black bean cakes. Their meals are affordable, fresh and delicious, and there’s a nice variety of salads, sandwiches, and sides with good vegetarian options too. We love to take guests there for breakfast or lunch especially.
Another favorite spot is conveniently located right in our building. The Skybar is located on the balcony / fire escape landings on the 6th, 7th and 8th floors of the Flat Iron building. An elevator operator will escort you to the bar in an old-fashioned elevator in this lovely building. They are open in the warmer months from 5pm until dusk serving coffee, cocktails and desserts. We love to take clients there to enjoy the views of the city and the mountain skyline while enjoying a local brew. It’s a great way to enjoy some air and a view while in the midst of the city.
Next time you are downtown for a drink come by and say hello and we will be more than happy to join you for a drink. Susan and James will be back in two more weeks from their exile.
