Enjoy a taste of North Carolina with a bed and breakfast cookbook from our Asheville B&B.

When I was 24 and living in Paris, I had a carrot cake recipe of which I was very proud. For some reason I decided that this recipe should be my “secret” and I steadfastly refused to share it with anyone. And, sure enough, when we moved to Hong Kong, the small folder with my personal recipes in it was lost. As I had not shared the recipe with anyone it was lost for good.

Recipes are meant to be shared. When we prepare a meal from a recipe given to us by a friend, we remember them and the meal they shared with us. And when we pass that recipe on to another we pass on new memories and share our love with others. When you travel to our bed and breakfast inn in Asheville, we hope that preparing our recipes for you will create fond memories for you to savor.

These cookbooks are compilations of recipes collected from myself, my family and friends in the first case; and from my fellow innkeepers in the Asheville Bed & Breakfast Association in the second. I’m thrilled with the cookbook!! We had a few friends over to celebrate the 4th and I decided to make a berry pie, since berries are in season right now. I’d never made one before so had to find a recipe, and first looked through your cookbook. I was thrilled that it did indeed have a berry pie recipe, was even happier that it was such a simple recipe – berries are so easy to prep, no peeling needed. It was by far the ABSOLUTE BEST PIE I’ve ever made, our friends are still raving about it! Thanks so much – I can’t wait to try more recipes. A Note from Your Host…

The Holiday’s are upon us!  It doesn’t seem possible.  But shortly the inn will be decked out for the end of the year and we will be busy baking mince pies and other holiday treats.  And of course we have some specials and suggestions for our guests as well.

Be sure and  check out our Biltmore Christmas Special.  Four floors of the Biltmore decorated from top to bottom for Christmas with an evening visit which includes rooms not open during the day. The fireplaces are lit and trees aglow as you tour the house.  This year’s theme is “Hearth and Home”.  It’s a Christmas tradition not to be missed!

In addition to the display at the Biltmore, you will want to visit the Grove Park Inn to view the finalists in the National Gingerbread House Competition, on display from November 27, 2016-January 5th, 2017.  On a smaller scale, the Smith-McDowell House is an Antebellum Mansion  built in 1840 which offers a Victorian Christmas Display from November 17th.  At the Carolina we follow our family tradition of honoring Thanksgiving by refraining from decorating until after that holiday.  But once Thanksgiving is over, we give in to a whole hearted love of Christmas with a live tree decorated with glass ornaments and small trees in every room.  Special holiday baking is also a in important part of the month!
