We are beyond grateful to share with you that we are safe and the Carolina Bed & Breakfast was relatively unharmed in Hurricane Helene. We want to thank you for your patience with us as we work through these devastating and challenging times here in Asheville. Thank you also for your kindness and understanding. We are very grateful for all of the messages of support and concern that we’ve received from our guests.
We sincerely apologize for the long delay in getting back to you if you have contacted us via phone or email. We have not had reliable cell service or internet service since Hurricane Helene hit on September 27th. As you have seen on the news, Asheville and the surrounding areas have been heavily affected.
We got our power restored recently but we still do not have suitable water at the B&B. The linemen worked diligently trying to repair the damage to the power lines and poles in all parts of Western North Carolina, as well as the surrounding States hit by Helene. We lost twelve massive trees on our beautiful property. Those trees crashed on the wires and poles that service our block with electricity. Our neighbors across the street had their power back much sooner than we did, so it required much patience on our part as the linemen continued the work that needed to happen to restore ours.
The water is slowly coming back on in Asheville as they rebuild the entire water infrastructure that services around 80% of Asheville residents. Currently some Asheville residents have water, but what most residents are receiving is not yet drinkable, nor should it be used for other things such as cooking, washing dishes or bathing. They are making good progress in restoring our water plant that was destroyed during the storm. We are hopeful that the water services will be restored with completely clean water soon. We will be unable to reopen until we have clean safe water at the inn.
